Maliatoa Taualii

My name is Maliatoa Taualii. I’m an artist from Waimānalo on the island of Oʻahu. I work with various types of mediums from large scale murals to wearable art.

The inspiration behind my art comes from the want to move people, to see a new perspective, and to transform them. Much of my art has multiple meanings. In Hawaiian, the word kaona means the deeper meanings and interpretations of something. I want to encourage people to not only look on the surface, but also recognize the multiple layers and search for something that resonates with them.

My mission is to encorporate my passion for art into everything that I do. Art is how I tell stories, how I keep my cultural knowledge alive, and how I connect to and impact my community.
