Ua Ao - Kumulipo

This mural tells the story of the last eight eras of the Kumulipo (Hawaiian creation chant) and the transition between pō (night) and ao (day). The first eight eras of the Kumulipo describes pō, which is the time of the gods. The last eight eras describe ao, the time of humans, and during these eras, there are three different stories about the creation of humans. All three stories describe the parenthood of mankind. One story is of Laʻilaʻi, Kāne, and Kiʻi, one is of Haumea and Kanaloa, and one is of Papahānaumoku and Wākea. In this mural, all three stories are woven together to create one image which shows how all is connected and that we must makawalu, to see from many perspectives.
